Boa Constrictor Snakes - Health
Boa Constrictors in captivity can suffer from many diseases: mites and ticks in the skin, worms in the gut, bacteria, and viruses. If the snake refuses food for a long time, it might be ill. Digestive problems are easy to treat when caught early. Respiratory infections, characterized by open mouthed breathing and bubbling nostrils, are cured by simply raising the temperature. Fleas are removed by good cleaning. Snake mites are very small and hard to see, they can be killed with special treatment.

Boa Constrictor Snakes - Feeding
In the wild Boa Constrictors feed on a variety of prey - amphibians, lizards, birds, mammals, and other snakes. In captivity they should be fed pre-killed rodents and, when adults, rabbits and chicken. At pet stores there are specially raised, healthy, and well-nourished animals. Don't feed raw chicken pieces from the grocery - they may be inflected with Salmonella bacteria. Wild-caught rodents and other animals may carry a variety of parasites and bacteria for which the snake has no immunity. If you cannot afford to buy the proper food, you shouldn't buy the Boa Constrictor.
Newborn Boa Constrictors should be fed every 5 days, adults - weekly. It's possible to feed them every 2 weeks or even less in emergency situations, but not recommended. Prey items should be approximately the same diameter as the snake. All prey should be killed, stunned, or frozen. Live rats can damage the snake. Boa Constrictors in captivity require vitamin and mineral supplements; don't forget to check the dosage with a vet. Never handle Boa Constrictors within a day or two after feeding, until the "lump" goes away.
